Lasting Relationships Turned Into Fishing Friendships

henry-fluke-fishing-charter-ctHi gang,

One of the main reasons I got into charter fishing was to meet people and develop long lasting relationships that turn into friendships.  This is a story about one of those friendships.

Three years ago I received a call from a mother asking about charter information for her son Henry.  It seems that Henry had the bug and was obsessed with fishing.  She wanted to plan a fishing trip for his birthday.  Henry was going to be 6 years old on October 6, 2014.  It just so happens that I was going to turn 66 years old on October 6, 2014.  I told his mom, how can I NOT take Henry fishing on our birthday”!  The trip was set and everyone had a great time catching a variety of fish in the Long Island Sound.

The trip has become an annual event and I really look forward to fishing with my new friend Henry.  Just this past weekend he, his brother and dad joined me for a tough day of fishing.  The fish weren’t biting but Henry still managed to land the fish of the day, a nice 22” fluke.  His smile tells it all.

My wish is to take Henry fishing when he turns 36 years old.  You do the math!

Tight Lines,
Cart. Rick

Spring has sprung!

Finally, the cold weather has released it's grip on us long enough to get our boats unwrapped, cleaned, painted and hopefully launched in the next couple days.  I can't wait to see "Jo-Sea" in her slip and ready to go fishing.

Speaking of fishing, there are some promising things happening right now.  Striped Bass are still biting strong in the Housatonic River, Tautog (Blackfish) are being found around the usual rock piles and jetties and the occasional Weakfish (Sea Trout) can also be found this time of year.  There have already been bunker sightings around Black Rock and Milford.  The first of three different seasons for Blackfish will close on April 30 and not reopen until July 1.  Fluke (Summer Flounder) season opens on May 17.

I should be in the water and ready to run charters starting next week so if you want to take advantage of any of the above fishing opportunities, drop us an email at: info@hookedonfishingcharters.com or call me at: 203-257-3431.  Hope to get you on the water soon.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Rick

Happy 2017!
Welcome to Hooked On Fishing Charters website. I hope everyone had a great holiday season and said their goodbyes to 2016.

As I sit here cleaning and organizing all of my fishing gear and tackle for the upcoming season, I want to announce an exciting change for Hooked On Fishing Charters.

We have moved our operation from Norwalk, CT to Stratford, CT. We are now located at Brewers Stratford Marina on the Housatonic River...605 Broad Street, Stratford, CT 06615. A map and directions can be found on our Contact Us page.

My main reason for the move is the better fishing opportunities in this area. The Housatonic River is famous for large bass and blues year round, plus it affords protection from rough seas and wind when it's too rough to fish The Sound. It also allows us to run 6 hour charters to areas such as Clinton and Saybrook when the fishing is off the charts there.

I realize this move may be a slight inconvenience for my New York area customers, but I promise the extra 20-30 minute drive is worth it. It is my hope that all my returning customers will find me and continue to share their family fishing adventures with me.

See you in the spring of 2017!

December 2016

I believe I’ll go fishing.”

Welcome to the new and improved website for Hooked On Fishing Charters.
I hope you find it informative and easy to navigate. We’ve added a few new
features such as this “blog” page and a weekly fishing report.

I plan to use this space to cover anything and everything related to fishing. We’ll cover everything from tutorials on tying knots to how to find fish. If you have questions or ideas you’d like me to cover, we can try to cover those topics as well.

I’m excited to get this new fishing season started. It’s shaping up to be a good one.
Now we just need “Mother Nature" to cooperate and bring us some warmer
weather.

When you sit down to make out that “what to do list” for the summer, don’t
forget to add, “take the kids fishing”.

ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE!

There's more to going fishing than just catching fish.  That early morning run out to the fishing grounds as the sun is just peeking over the horizon can be breathtaking, as well as a beautiful sunset.  The peace and tranquility of spending a day on the water can cure a lot of ills.  So the next time the day to day stress is weighing you down, grab the family, pack a lunch and book a trip to get out on the water.  Heck, you may even catch a tasty dinner!

Enjoy Life,

Capt. Rick
